Lalu Prasad Yadav was born on June 11, 1947, to Kundan Rai and Marachhiya Devi, a poor peasant family in Phulwaria in Gopalganj district of Bihar . He married Rabri Devi on June 1, 1973. They have two sons and seven daughters. According to him, his large family is a protest against the infamous family planning initiative during the Indian Emergency (1975 – 77). He named his eldest daughter, Misa Bharati after the atrocious Maintenance of Internal Security Act.
Lalu got elected as a member of 6th Lok Sabha on a Janata Party ticket at the age 29, becoming one of the youngest members of the Indian Parliament then. In a span of 10 years, Yadav became a formidable force in Bihar State Politics. The much talked about Fodder Scam of Bihar forced Yadav to resign from the office of CM and bring his wife, Rabri Devi, as successor. Yadav formed the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in 1997, after breaking away from the Janata Dal. Lalu was elected to the 14th Lok Sabha from Chhapra seat of Bihar. He became the railway minister in the UPA Government. When he took over, the Indian Railways was a lossmaking organization. The Rakesh Mohan Committee had termed The Railways a ‘white elephant’ and predicted that it would possibly end in bankruptcy by 2015. During his initial year as a railways minister, he banned plastic cups to serve tea at railway stations and ordered that they be replaced by kulhads. Lalu is now credited with engineering the financial turnaround of Indian Railways, that was on the verge of bankruptcy before his appointment to the office and in 2008, profits were 25000 crore (US$ 5.2 billion dollars). In his introductory speech for the Railway Budget 20082009, he quoted, “Speaker Sir, ….,however, we take pride in the fact that our achievement, on the benchmark of net surplus before Dividend, makes us better than most of the Fortune 500 companies in the world…” Well known management schools are now interested in Lalu’s leadership in managing the turnaround . He has addressed over a hundred students from Harvard, Wharton and others and the turnaround is now being studied by the students of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
Lalu has a sizable fan following in Bollywood also. Actors Sunil Shetty and Raza Murad and directors Mahesh Manjrekar and Mahesh Bhatt to name a few. Actor turned politician Shatrughan Sinha, once said, ‘Had Lalu not been a politician he could have been an actor’. Lalu’s party has continued in power for several years on the strength of the MuslimYadav vote bank and he is extremely popular amongst both communities. His brand of politics has caused a great deal of resentment among other caste groups such as Bhumihar Brahmins, Rajputs, other Brahmin subcastes and Kayasthas. Supporters of Lalu claim that the media and other institutional are biased against him. Although certain sections of press recognise the bias, they counter this claim that they have simply been highlighting corruption cases against Lalu as a part of their function as a free press, whereas institutions like the Election Commission claim that they always has simply been doing its duty to prevent frauds and unethical behavior committed by Lalu and his supporters during Bihar state/general elections.
Lalu has proven himself not only a survivor, but a winner all through his career. The allegations and biases have only made him comeback with renewed vengeance and deliver an ace. Will he crest the wave this time again or be crestfallen? How will Lalu’s leela work; for him or against him? Let’s see what Ganesha has to say:
Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Horoscope
Transiting Sun will be exalted in his twelfth house in conjunction with natal Mars. Mars the lord of the twelfth house will be in the eleventh house of gains. Guru the lord of the eleventh house will be in Capricorn in the ninth house of bhagya and luck and Shani the lord of the ninth and tenth house of success will be in the
fourth house in Simha. Thus he will have a transiting parivartan yoga of Sun – Mars – Jupiter – Saturn, involving the fourth, ninth tenth and eleventh houses. Shani itself will aspect its own house, the tenth house.
Ganesha finds that Lalu may be unbeatable and unstoppable in this election and his mood and actions will be upbeat and unrelenting. Obviously that he has parted ways with Cong (I) and the UPA, for he thinks he can make it all alone; rather beat them in the race.
In a nutshell, it is Lalu all the way.
Wishing him good luck and may Lord Ganesha bless him.
